No. A pure Ruby implementation was always part of the goal of Addressable and that hasn't changed. I regularly test the exact same codebase against 1.8.6, 1.8.7, 1.9.1, and JRuby 1.5.0. Additionally, as you may have noticed, the test suite for Addressable is rather substantial — larger and more thorough than even the test suite uriparser has. I'm not at all willing to rely on a C/C++ dependency when Addressable is already reliable, mature, and fast. The uriparser dependency gives you very little and it substantially reduces portability.
