Hi @allamand!

Good question! hahaha, They just open sourced. I didn't have the time to use it and research the state of operator-framework.

This is not a VS, it's just the evolution of OSS, I'm happy that finally, they took actions into this (I want to think that Kooper had something into this decision), on the other side I'm sad that no one had contacted us to merge efforts or to rethink/plan Kooper/operator-framework future, but that's ok, it's not bad, maybe they don't know about Kooper either. Anyway, to answer your question.

It's known that most of the people will check the number of stars and where it comes from before using one or the other and In this game CoreOS/RedHat wins.

We want to make (and we try doing it) kooper easy to use, clean to read and easy to test. If the SDK of the operator framework doesn't provide these requirements, Kooper will do.

In the short/mid term Kooper will be here (we are using it for many controllers/operators internally), in the long term I can't answer if we will start contributing to operator-framework or Kooper will be an easier to use wrapper around operator-framework.

I let this question Open because in the following days will research and discuss operator-framework and will write what's the future plan :)

PS. Are you using Kooper already or are you thinking of using it?

Best.

Hi @slok,

thanks for your quick response. We are currently working on a Cassandra Operator using Kooper as based (mostly inspired from spotahome redis-operator). Kooper as made us saving lot of times and we could have quickly a functional prototype.

I'm also going to check what they deliver in operator-framework, our goal is to be more closely to standards as possible, I'm glad to hear from you on the futur of kooper.

Thanks

We also try to use the standards and what the community uses, that's why Kooper uses client-go and is designed and implemented in the way Kubernetes describes how to implement controllers.

We'll keep you updated on Kooper future.

As it has been seen, Kooper continues its support. Closing issue!
