It does look quite a lot like how we're using it internally. We're naming our services according to http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2782.txt, which means we could be looking up something like _spotify-search._http.somedomain. Also, we've got some proprietary things for routing requests and collecting statistics (we're in fact not using HTTP but a proprietary protocol stack that does similar things but with better performance). We've also got something internal called Nameless that does similar things to what Consul does.
