It makes writing scripts on our end easier, since we can always count on
the classes directory existing.

Well, it's your project ;) I guess adding a "ant compile" at the top of the scripts would do the same trick.

Seems like I misunderstood the issue. I thought there was an empty classes directory like we have in our git repository, not that the compiled classes themselves were there. We should be able to get rid of that.
