Looks like you aren't admin, run this:

kubectl create clusterrolebinding "cluster-admin-$(whoami)" \
    --clusterrole=cluster-admin \
    --user="$(gcloud config get-value core/account)"

The K8S example is specific to GKE. On minikube don't deploy the startup-script and replace the GKE storage classes with this one https://github.com/cvallance/mongo-k8s-sidecar/blob/master/example/StatefulSet/minikube_hostpath.yaml

With GKE I get the following when trying to apply mongo-rs any help would be appreciated
