I made some improvements to scaling filter A, now it's much like Lameboy. It uses the ds's hardware to do the filter, so it doesn't affect speed. Anything better than this will consume a fair amount of resources. That's not to say I won't experiment with some other scaling algorithms... though I'm not really keen on the idea of upscaling, then downscaling, I just think that's too much. The ratio for the scaling is 1.3333. I wonder if any existing scaling algorithms would work with that? Or if not, there must be an arbitrary scaling algorithm that would work better than the ds's hardware blending...

Just for the heck of it, I tried implementing scale2x - it was just way too slow. There's no way it could be downscaled after that, if it's not fast enough to even scale up within a reasonable time period. Plus, I don't think I can spare the memory - 180 kilobytes for the intermediary image. So yeah, this isn't looking likely.

Why not add support for the 3 in 1 Ram expansion and Official Ram expansion packs, That would offset that issue and give you much more headroom.

You could have it in such a way that some options are not available unless the Ram expansion is detected.

I am not sure if Rumble and Ram would work at the same time on a 3 in 1 but with so few Rumble games it could be set up in a way if Rumble is set to off in GameYob it will look for the Ram Expansion?

Closing this because I have no intention of doing software-based scaling filters.
