This is a problem with JSZip rather than with Downloadify. When you click the button the zip is generated, and that's what's causing causing the browser to hang. When you're dealing with "large" amounts of data JSZip is constrained by both memory and the speed of Javascript. I'm afraid I don't see this improving in the library soon.
I can only suggest that you zip smaller amounts of data in the browser, and move more intensive zipping to the server.
