I had this issue and it was because I forgot to add "models" as the first key in the models object:

swagger.addModels({
  models:
    'Model':
      'id': 'Model',
      'properties': {
        ...
      }
})

Its not a breaking chance since the person is not suggesting a chance to the source code of swagger-node-express.

Ah, I wasn't referring to his answer, I was referring to the breaking change that snuck in in a recent commit where the model is no longer referenced as an attribute of the model object. The input to addModels is now assumed to be the assoc array of models rather than an object with a models property that is the assoc array. It broke my app. I submitted a pull request that brings the example app in line with the new function contract.
