I think I have worked out why. Basically, the print(Printable&) and print(float) functions make a series of print() calls themselves. So for example printing a float will first call print on the integer part (23), then on the decimal point print('.'), then on the remainder - print(5), print(6). The result is that you end up seeing:
23
.3 <- after next print, the '.' gets printed at the original coordinate.

63 <- final result as you saw
The same will be true for the IP address.
