I prefer continually scrolling tables that fetch data as needed. E.g. fetch 500 rows first. Then fetch the next 500 when the user has scrolled past the 500. This is also API friendlier I think.

Btw if we decide to do this, I think scrolling should free memory too, else very large tables where the user scrolls a lot will consume entire memory. So adopting a "window" approach where a window of data is fetched and shown based on current scroll position is best. This way if the user scrolled past 10000 rows for example, then the first 9500 are not sitting there consuming memory.
The con of this approach is - the usability depends on network speed. But this is text data - so some sort of compromise on window size should work.
