The dependence should not be removed, otherwise global_watch's start and stop time will be incorrect.

If you are running one GPU you should get a small gain by setting the local_parameter_device=gpu. I start with cpu when on one GPU when doing multi-gpu scale testing to be consistent. Not the question you were asking, just extra info. Closing based on @suiyuan2009 answer. You can still comment and people can respond.
