Is it possible that it is due to you having a different prompt? Which did you use when testing this?

Well, it's not the difference in prompts. However, I noticed I also can't reproduce it if I first clear the terminal. Have you tried immediately after opening a fresh terminal or after doing some stuff inside it?

AFAIK, this is an inherent issue with the VTE search implementation. I'm not quite sure what's happening though so it's unclear if it's one of the many issues that are already reported.

I don't think this is a Termite issue. It's the realm of VTE.
