And perhaps the magnifying glass area should be filled with a solid neutral grey (or something similar) when it's deactivated?

Does disabled magnifying glass look similar to attached screenshot for you? Currently the last capture should be blended with the background, so if your widget background color is grey, it should become almost grey. Or does this still distract? I guess it could be simply filled with the background color. Then only the frame of the widget would be visible.

I didn't notice it was blended, in any case, it's alright since it becomes a solid grey on relaunch.
Right now, I've deactivated it and I only use the floating magnifier which I find sufficient.
