I am having trouble reproducing this. We're using PHPCI 1.7 and JSHint 2.9.2 without any issues. The Git message confuses me, as git isn't called in the plugin.
Have you tried running jshint on the CLI on your PHPCI instance?

Sorry, removing the 'pathr param did run the JSHINT succesfully.
Any clue what I might have done wrong in the path syntax ?
path: 'public/assets/js'
Of not, please do close this issue...

The path syntax looks fine, we're using a custom path as well.
You could try logging the path by adding $this->phpci->log($path)
to the JSHint source (just temporarily modify the source in the vendor path).
I am also curious what command gets executed by PHPCI. You could find out by setting the $quiet
variable to true in Builder.php (I would prefer modifying a config entry, build I couldn't find any).
