Using qualified functions inside filter or arrange results in 'object not found' error for SQL

It seems to work if I bind dplyr::between to the name between, but if I give it another name, it doesn't work:

lf <- dbplyr::lazy_frame(x = 1, y = 1,

between <- dplyr::between
lf %>% 
  dplyr::filter(between(y, 0, 1)) %>% 
  dplyr::show_query()
#> <SQL> SELECT *
#> FROM "df"
#> WHERE ("y" BETWEEN 0.0 AND 1.0)

imported_between <- dplyr::between
lf %>% 
  dplyr::filter(imported_between(y, 0, 1)) %>% 
  dplyr::show_query()
#> <SQL> SELECT *
#> FROM "df"
#> WHERE (IMPORTED_BETWEEN("y", 0.0, 1.0))

Edit: I realise now that it's due to NSE, and the name between doesn't even have to be defined for the filter statement to work (but then it wouldn't work for a tibble).
Is there a way this could work for both tibbles and SQL tables without having to import between?
