"increasing" / "decreasing":
a nomenclature introduced by Elledge was "STOP" and "GO" genes:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22628553
"STOP" would be genes that normally limit proliferation, so they would be increasing when knocked down.
And vice versa

"noise" in the FACS screens:
I don't think it's that bad of a term.
You could refer to "signal-to-noise" and actually take the inverse?

I was more referring to the gradations, e.g. what does a noise value of 0.5 or 2 signify? What are the units? Maybe we could phrase it in terms of the fold change between mean control and mean experimental expression?
