Technically, you can also get banned just for using BetterDiscord without the plugin.

BetterDiscord is against TOS but by using it on your client it's not really attracting any attention compared to using something like discord experiments or animated status which connects your account to the bot gateway

If 'animated status' is referring to this plugin, it does not connect you to a bot gateway. It sends a request as if the user pressed the buttons in the gui manually.

Well, I guess spamming the discord's api with a bunch of requests to change status isn't very good for them, may be a serious abuse. I won't risk to use it personally
