I followed your proposal and now use the amsmath aligned environment if multiple equations are nested within a table. The fix is included in revision f775b79. Here is the snippet of your table:
\begin{table}\begin{tabular}{|l|l|} \hline \textit{Cambria} & \textit{Libertinus} \\
\hline {$\begin{aligned}
\left (x+\upalpha \right )^{n}&=\sum _{k=0}^{n}\left (\frac{n}{k}\right )x^{k}\upalpha ^{n-k} \\
\left |x\right |&=\begin{cases} -x,x<0\\
x,x\geq 0
\end{cases} \\
\nabla \cdot \nabla \uppsi &=\frac{\partial ^{2}\uppsi }{\partial x^{2}}+\frac{\partial ^{2}\uppsi }{\partial y^{2}}+\frac{\partial ^{2}\uppsi }{\partial z^{2}}=\frac{1}{r^{2}\sin \uptheta }\left [\sin \uptheta \frac{\partial }{\partial r}\left (r^{2}\frac{\partial \uppsi }{\partial r}\right )+\frac{\partial }{\partial \uptheta }\left (\sin \uptheta \frac{\partial \uppsi }{\partial \uptheta }\right )+\frac{1}{\sin \uptheta }\frac{\partial ^{2}\uppsi }{\partial \upvarphi ^{2}}\right ]
\end{aligned}$}

\end{table}
