I think this is my fault because I'm using Apple's python --> http://python.6.x6.nabble.com/py2app-and-so-files-td2156535.html --> so I'll try building with a downloaded Python and close this issue if everything is fine.

Amendment: I'm using a Python in /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework

After installing a brew python and reinstalling all dependencies, the error persists.

We are doing a ditto --arch i386 on the app file, and I believe that my generated hid.so doesn't like it when it is stripped down to i386.

This issue is caused by 32-bit Python. My workaround was to build with explicit arch flags, but alas the real solution is to migrate away from 32-bit.
