Ok found a solution: http://www.stormconsultancy.co.uk/blog/development/code-snippets/jquery-document-ready-events-and-turbolinks/

var do_on_load = function() {
  // do some things
}
$(document).ready(do_on_load)
document.addEventListener('page:change', do_on_load)

Is this the right way to do this? If it is, i'll update the readme.

very important difference between page:load and page:change...

page:load is a fresh dom request only

page:change is fired every time a page is changed. This includes cached DOMS. For performance, the DOM history is cached (up to 10) This means binded events within document.body (or .body itself) are preserved, and refiring on ready events may not be necessary as you would accidently add an event handler again.
