faq's Issues

Timelines loading additional toots

hi all,
after a certain number of new toots while being absent the timelines show a button named <> (or similar). When pressing, additional toots are showed. My issue is, that these toots are showed below actual position, what means that user needs to read from newer to older what makes no sense from my point of view. Alternatively user needs to scroll down and find manually their last position in timeline, to be able to read from older to newer (what would be the 'normal' way.
So, instead of showing additional toots below actual position they should be displayed obove?
Ceers, Jan

Add FAQ entry for direct messages

I was looking for a way to send a direct message and couldn't find it right away. After poking around in the app and looking trough the FAQs I finally found the answer in this issue: tuskyapp/Tusky#1953. I suggest adding this to the FAQs.

Q: How do I send a direct message?

A: Create a toot, mention the user and set the visibility (World icon) to Direct.

prerequisites for having emoji support in tusky

When I lately got my first dvice equipped with an Android 10 based OS (having only Android 7 based before), for the first time I had the emoji button in tusky functional. On previous systems the button was greyed out and did - nothing. As I understand emoji support is provided by the OS and tusky (in contrast to WhatsApp and other apps who implement their own emoji sets) relies on those; I wonder if this is an FAQ topic to get info on which prerequisite to fulfill in order to get emojis working in tusky. In the unlikely case this is a new observation, I can of course put this into a regular issue for the app.

Access to preferences / search from hidden header

In the Android app, I inadvertently collapsed/hid the header and I can't find the way to access the flyout side menu, the preferences to reshow the header, or the search. I've been swiping and long-pressing everything I can to no avail. thanks.

FAQ translation?

Would it be worth adding translations for this FAQ?

For instance having on this repo a folder "translation" and having the README.md translated in multiple languages, then adding each translation at the top of the main README for easier access.

If you think that would be an interesting idea, I can help with french translation for example (maybe portuguese and spanish too).

Enlarging the button boundaries.

While skimming through content and favouriting lots of posts it is extremely easy to miss the button bounds and accidentally expand the post which can be irritating.

An outdated link in the README

In the README, a link to a specific line of code is outdated.

The link: https://github.com/tuskyapp/Tusky/blob/develop/app/src/main/res/values/donottranslate.xml#L160

The link can be replaced with the following: https://github.com/tuskyapp/Tusky/blob/059352f4718c7faa8a35a0a240a897a33a70038c/app/src/main/res/values/donottranslate.xml#L165

The second link does not highlight the wrong line in the future, but must be kept up to date if the list changes in the future, because it is locked to a specific commit.

Can't add filters

I can't add filters under Account Preferences - it gives the error "Error creating filter" on both Android 13 and Android 9 phones.

If you add filters via the Mastodon app or website they show up OK in Tusky. You can edit them, but they don't update to reflect the edit (and it can sometimes make the Tusky app close when you hit the 'update' button).

(I've had another user of the app confirm it's also happening to them).
