There is a related problem reported by CPFT S3 ward with the scale not displaying in landscape on iPad.

Two possible solutions I can think of:

• Scale the scale to make it fit the height of the screen. Disadvantage is that some tasks may specify the dimensions of scales in centimetres so we'd lose some authenticity
• Add a scrollbar. Disadvantage is that the user might not think to scroll to see the lower values.

Presumably goes off screen in landscape too, then, since it's vertical?
I think likely better to be able to see it than to have to scroll.
Absolute scaling is a bit of a big ask anyway on screens; though we've done it as best we can, it does depend on correct DPI reporting (probably true for tablets/phones, though!) +/- user correction (e.g. for desktop settings).
I imagine tricky to detect/warn or force the preferred orientation?
