i have split opinions on this. i think a lot of people use ctags because it has no dependency, but i don't know for sure. what exactly do you plan to do?

The code works only if pygments is avaialble. In other word, pygments is just an option.

Now xcmd is implemented. So we can touch this topic.

though is is distributed under term of GPLv3,

I wrote a small glue code based on global-pygments-plugin.
It will work with ctags. However, some work may need for each languages.
I will report more things.

To fill the fields like scope, typeref, signature, etc, pygments is not enough.
