Interestingly the version (0.9.5) downloaded with pip install gives the Zotero class as

class Zotero(object):
    """
    Zotero API methods
    A full list of methods can be found here:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/server_api
    """

    def __init__(self, user_id = None, user_key = None):
        ...

however 0.9.9 is listed as the current version in this repo (https://github.com/urschrei/pyzotero) and I believe that this has produced the error.

PyPI has listed v0.9.9 as its current package since the 27th of June 2012. Have you tried uninstalling Pyzotero using pip, then reinstalling? Or installing into a virtualenv?
