fetch-cached-dns's Introduction

fetch-cached-dns

This repo has been archived and the source has been moved to vercel/fetch monorepo

A decorator on top of fetch that caches the DNS query of the hostname of the passed URL.

How to use

const fetch = require('@vercel/fetch-cached-dns')(require('node-fetch'))

Since this implementation is implementing redirects we are providing an onRedirect extra option to the fetch call that gets called with the response object and the options that will be used for the next request. This allows to access the request from outside and to modify the options.

NOTE: if the fetch implementation is not supplied, it will attempt to use peerDep node-fetch

fetch-cached-dns's Issues

Action required: Greenkeeper could not be activated 🚨

🚨 You need to enable Continuous Integration on all branches of this repository. 🚨

To enable Greenkeeper, you need to make sure that a commit status is reported on all branches. This is required by Greenkeeper because it uses your CI build statuses to figure out when to notify you about breaking changes.

Since we didn’t receive a CI status on the greenkeeper/initial branch, it’s possible that you don’t have CI set up yet. We recommend using Travis CI, but Greenkeeper will work with every other CI service as well.

If you have already set up a CI for this repository, you might need to check how it’s configured. Make sure it is set to run on all new branches. If you don’t want it to run on absolutely every branch, you can whitelist branches starting with greenkeeper/.

Once you have installed and configured CI on this repository correctly, you’ll need to re-trigger Greenkeeper’s initial pull request. To do this, please delete the greenkeeper/initial branch in this repository, and then remove and re-add this repository to the Greenkeeper App’s white list on Github. You'll find this list on your repo or organization’s settings page, under Installed GitHub Apps.

Module not fount dns, dgram, ,,,

I get this error when doing follow the guide
const fetch = require('@zeit/fetch-cached-dns')(require('node-fetch'))

Module not found: Can't resolve 'dns' in 'C:\Sony\work\saostar\saostar-fe-pc\node_modules\native-dns-cache'

Support localhost urls

When fetching urls with localhost, we receive errors like this:

Ms-MacBook-Pro:worker arunoda$ npm run testonly -- -t "create jobs"

> WARN_EXIT=1 jest --coverage -i --verbose --forceExit "-t" "create jobs"

Implement it

  1. Parse the URL
  2. If the hostname is an IP, go to 4
  3. Resolve the hostname to an IP using https://github.com/zeit/dns-cached-resolve
  4. Extend the headers supplied (or initialize them if missing) with the hostname
  5. Re-construct the URL using the IP instead of the hostname, pass it to the underlying fetch along with the options object from the extended headers from 4
