Thanks @pauljamescleary ! I believe this is because, beginning with macOS Catalina (10.15), Apple is requiring all software distributed outside of the Mac App Store to be signed and notarized. Software that isn't properly signed or notarized will be shown an error message.
It may be worth looking into gon as a way to automate the process of signing and notarizing the binaries. However, because we'll need an Apple Developer ID certificate, this raises questions about how to get a suitable certificate associated with either VinylDNS or Comcast, if I understand correctly.
@kristakhare - Do you have any advice or opinions here?
