Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been working on a --fork option for a similar issue: setting up a replica set for mongoose tests in travis. But unfortunately, I haven't quite been able to get it to work yet... Will try a few other alternatives next week.

Inspired by this library, I've created a small gist that helped me running a MongoDB replicaset for some integration tests: https://gist.github.com/jonbern/ef9802d3fad84335ef544503a060a5e5

It can be used the following way:

const replicaset = require('./replicaset');

describe('Tests', () => {

  before(async function() {
    this.timeout(1000 * 60 * 5);
    await replicaset.start(config.mongodb.uri);
  });

  after(async function() {
    this.timeout(1000 * 60 * 1);
    await replicaset.stop();
  });

});
