The reason it doesn't show status on the summary right now is because that's too expensive to compute. Status is not stored on the report, only on the event associated with the report so we need to run through them every time.

If you open up the report, you'll get the coloured hilights.

I'm hoping 1.5 fixed this but I haven't ran through everything just yet.

Do you have a link to the issue asking puppetdb to support this?

otherwise, as I understand it, one can store data in puppetdb - that does not come from clients, so it would be feasible to have a puppetboard worker process, which simply went through latest reports, (and checked for new ones on each run) and saved a value in puppetdb, indicating last status (ok/fail/change/unresponsive).

That would probably be considered a workaround though.. :)

and even if I click the reports link on a node - and it only shows the last 10 reports.. it doesn't show the run result of those.. :(

That's most certainly a workaround.

When you click on a report you should get a something like this:

report

from puppetboard.

KlavsKlavsen avatar KlavsKlavsen commented on July 16, 2024

yes - thats what I get. so skipped means no change -and if all is skipped - there's no change?
Also.. the list of Nodes only shows the latest updated ones.. there seems to be no way to show all my nodes - nor search on a specific node - without having to create a query (something which I'd hate to have to instruct my boss in doing, just to look at changes for a specific server :)

and howcome the "full report" doesn't show the run output, nor what resources are being maintained? the report isn't all that usefull, when the content isn't shown

@KlavsKlavsen Can we continue this on IRC please? Github's issue tracker isn't very well suited for this.

#puppetboard on freenode.

ohh - and sorry for "badgering" - I hope I'm not too annoying here.. I'm just trying to give some constructive feedback on what other users (me in this instance :) get from puppet dashboard, and would like to see in puppetboard in the future :)
If my boss wants any of the features enough - I can hopefully allocate time to work on them myself as well.
