Not very mysterious. Probably should've known since it affected 5.4 but it also tagged luajit since my versioning isn't perfect.
AST was structured differently depending on version, and would return a table with the identifier and the attribute on lua 5.4.
Fixing this with an update that spits out comments, so that this behavior is the same on all versions. Except now, on other versions, the 2nd value in the table can be a multiline comment ie:
local x --[[foo]] = 5Will be useful for my typed lua project specifically.
