NODE_ENV='production' grunt
doesn't work either..
This works, changing the package.json => scripts => "webpack": "webpack -p" and then
npm run webpack
but the build server needs to runt it via grunt I think for some reason.. and as I said I can't modify the build servers behaviour as I lack access to it..

Finally I figured out the solution myself
const path = require('path');
++ const webpack = require('webpack');
const BUILD_DIR = path.resolve(__dirname, 'build/');
const APP_DIR = path.resolve(__dirname, 'src/');
module.exports = function config(grunt) {
grunt.initConfig({
pkg: grunt.file.readJSON('package.json'),
webpack: {
reactcatalog: {
// ...
plugins: [
new webpack.DefinePlugin({
process: {
env: {
NODE_ENV: '"production"'
}
}
}),
new webpack.optimize.UglifyJsPlugin()
]
},
},
});
};

It would be nice to have the above in the documentation :)

In webpack 4 You can simple set the mode to production: https://webpack.js.org/concepts/mode/

@danez thanks, it does NOT work, at least not with the module.exports = function
syntax and whatever our build server does.. only the above worked..
