I just tried a fresh install from the deb package and was unable to reproduce the problem. I'm wondering if it's conflicting with files from an earlier version on your machine.

Seems likely. I did uninstall the old version using apt after the upgrade failed to work and then reinstalled the deb, but still had the problem. I just finished doing an installation of a checkout from master, which worked great. After that I then reinstalled from the deb and it's working fine. What do I need to delete to make sure that an old installation is completely removed?

Good question. If it's working for you now I'll go ahead and close this issue but I'll wipe everything and reinstall an older version to see if I can figure out what the problem might have been.

Sounds good. I'm in the process of installing Virtual Box so I can dig into things like this more fully in the future.

The problem occurs on a totally fresh Ubuntu 11.04 virtual machine so my best guess is that it's working on our dev machines because of something that's left over from installing from source.
Also, the Retriever does eventually finish "downloading" the scripts and reaches the main interface, but it contains no datasets.

I did reproduce this problem on a fresh 11.04. The problem is a missing v in the version which is causing a 404 error when version.txt is checked. I'll get it fixed tomorrow.

Glad you tracked it down. I'll do a full round of 11.04 testing once you make the fix and repackage the deb.

This problem is solved - once the other issue with the deb package is resolved, I'll rebuild it.
