It's on the roadmap. Next to eliminating the chrome installation this will also free users of the required google account for installing from the Chrome Webstore. And this should allow us to publish to the Mac App Store if we get accepted.

The chrome developers are also working on chrome shell, which should achieve similar results and be easier to integrate as it would use the same apis as our current desktop and cordova runtimes:
