I tried it on your demo sample.....changed time to today 2014-01-09 09:51:49. system time was 2014-01-09 11:51:49.
It counted down instead of counting up above 2hrs 00 mins 00 secs. This must be a bug. when i changed the date to yesterday 2014-01-08 09:51:49. it worked. Something is not right.

I've fixed this issue by replacing the Date.parse function (which differs based on browser implementation, but seemed to not be using local time for date parsing). I now use a custom function to parse the date string, which seems to work and fixes this issue.
