You are absolutely correct. I set up a virtual environment with Python 3.11.7, and installation of open-iris went flawlessly.

once again thanks for raising that issue and bringing our attention to that problem. I had a quick look at that and it looks to
me like the root cause of that problem is Python's version you are currently using, namely Python 3.12. I manage to replicate your error on my MacOS and I found out that some of dependency packages haven't been adjusted to Python 3.12 version.

As a solution, I'd recommend downgrading Python's version you are currently using in your experiments. I checked Python 3.11 on MacOS with pip 23.3.1 and installing the open-iris package (pip install open-iris) worked for me without any errors.

Please try it and let us know if that worked for you so that we can close that issue. Thanks in advance.
