Maybe a bit late but I've solved the exact same problem by removing libfdt package on my host and grabbing the dtc submodule referenced in this repo using the following line : git submodule update --init dtc

Yes there are some bad versions of distro-installed libfdt out there unfortunately. I think we patched mainline to ignore these bad versions a while back. Do you still have this bug on the latest branch when using host-installed libfdt?

I'm using the current last commit : d52a5b5 or branch xilinx-master.
On my host machine (Linux 3.11-2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.11.8-1 (2013-11-13) x86_64 GNU/Linux) the faulty libfdt-dev package is version 1.4.0-2.
I've just tested on another machine (Linux 3.13.0-24-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 10 19:11:08 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) with a libfdt-dev version 1.4.0+dfsg-1 package, working well.
