BD Cytometric Bead Array (CBA) was performed to detect the protein level of IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, and IL-10. The expression difference of each IL between on-treatment (cycle 1 or cycle 2) and pre-treatment samples was estimated as 〖IL〗_Δ = (O-P)/P, where O and P represent the level of IL protein at on-treatment (cycle 1 or cycle 2) and pre-treatment (P value is defined as baseline), respectively. To calculate the immune score (〖IS〗_Δ) based on these four ILs, we weighted each IL difference 〖IL〗_Δ, that if 〖IL〗_Δ > 0.5, the weighted 〖IL〗_Δ, 〖IL〗_Δw was given a score of +1; if 〖IL〗_Δ < -0.5, the 〖IL〗_Δwwas given a score of -1; and if 〖IL〗_Δ is within the range of -0.5 and 0.5, the 〖IL〗_Δwwas given a score of 0. The final 〖IS〗_Δ for each patient was the sum of the weighted 〖IL〗_Δw of four ILs. Patients with 〖IS〗_Δ > 0 were defined as immune activation, while 〖IS〗_Δ ≤ 0 were defined as immune non-activation.
