@rajasaur I'm -1 for processes daemonizing itself. You should nearly always run your daemon processes with the help of some init system like runit, systemd, upstart, docker, supervisor etc.

Running gotty in background like gotty top >/dev/null 2>&1 &
could help you? You can also use the nohup
command when make it a daemon.
I feel like the native daemon mode is a little bit dangerous because running processes are hidden and can be forgotten. We can use process managers like systemd and supervisord when want to make gotty a system daemon.
However, I agree with you that sometimes the native daemon mode is useful. So let me keep this issue open and hear more feedback from others.

Thanks for considering. Supervisor would definitely be a nicer way. Right now, I put it into background like what you suggested, but what I was trying to do is to run couple of processes at the same time when using Openshift Origin using Gotty to expose the terminal.
Usecase: When running docker containers, it kind of becomes hard for someone to see whats going on, so when packaging a Docker image, I add Gotty into it and expose the port as part of it. This allows someone to view whats happening inside. Some context is here: https://lists.openshift.redhat.com/openshift-archives/users/2015-August/msg00039.html
