Reflecting the rust runtime is useful for other reasons, although I get the advantage of transparency to the fuse API - helps with examples from other languages.

My thought process is that mirror/loopback filesystems with some amended functionality are the more common use-cases (rather than the exception) - I'm working on an S3-backed hierarchical filesystem.

It would be great to have both - explicit FUSE API and compatibility layer from rust std.

Not sure if this is very useful, since filesystem implementations need to provide this information and usually don't get it from existing files. So except for examples (mirror filesystem) I don't see much sense in this conversion. It could be handy for mirror examples though (maybe together with a conversion for fuse::FileAttr as well)
