conference-data's Issues

Unable to add conference

Hi There,
I've been attempting to add a conference via the confs.tech site - and after clicking submit nothing happens. It thinks for a second, hangs, and then nothing happens.

Happy to submit a PR via the repo - please advise how to do so.

How to list hybrid conferences?

Hi team, with the rise of hybrid conferences - that both offer an online experience, and a physical location - how do we reflect that on confs.tech?

Unable to submit conference request

Hello,

I've been trying to click the "submit" button in order to post a new conference to the conf.tech website. However, the button will change to submitting and change back to submit without posting.

Do you think you can help me publish my event to the calendar listing?

Here are the details for the conference.
Topic: General
Conference name: O'Reilly Software Architecture Conference
URL: https://conferences.oreilly.com/software-architecture/sa-ca
Start date: 2020-06-15
End Date: 2020-06-18
City: Santa Clara
Country: United States
Conference Twitter Handle: @OReillySACon

Thank you,

Sarah Vienneau

Any proprositon contributions

Hi I want to ask if there any open propositions of contributions to add here and it's still concerned by hacktooberfest or not?

Add Code of Conduct checkbox

What do yall think about adding a checkbox / flag for conferences that have a Code of Conduct (published on / accessible from the event page)? For plenty of peeps a CoC plays an important role in deciding whether or not to join an event.

add FOSDEM23 , but what category?

PR to follow (because I have questions about how to categorize a multitrack event that hits a lot of categories).

FOSDEM https://fosdem.org/2023/ is the event. it has 600+ talks over two days in all or nearly all of the categories described. Does it go under "general" or get cross listed?

Question on contributing - Modifying event details

Hi folks,

Just to check what are the process of modifying existing event details? Forked the repo and open a corresponding Pull request?

Previously i make a submission via the Conf-bot for GopherCon Singapore 2019, but lately the event dates have been changed :).

LvivJS Page

I can't read russian or ukrainian, but is this really the conference page at https://lvivjs.org.ua ? See my screenshot below.

Double Conference

Hi!
The conference DevOps Fusion has been postponed from the 18.03 to the 26.08.
Could you please delete the conference on the 18.03?
Also, could you please the additional text from the 26.03, where I described the issue about the postponing.

Thank You!

Add Broken Link Checker - Github Action

I believe that it will be a great idea to setup a GitHub action that runs periodically and checks for broken links.
It will check all repository links once per day and create an issue in case of errors.

Github action to check for broken links in Markdown, HTML, and text files using Lychee, a fast link checker written in Rust.

Here is a full example of a GitHub workflow file:

It will check all repository links once per day and create an issue in case of errors.

name: Links

on:
  repository_dispatch:
  workflow_dispatch:
  schedule:
    - cron: "00 18 * * *"

jobs:
  linkChecker:
    runs-on: ubuntu-latest
    steps:
      - uses: actions/checkout@v4

      - name: Link Checker
        id: lychee
        uses: lycheeverse/lychee-action@v1

      - name: Create Issue From File
        if: env.lychee_exit_code != 0
        uses: peter-evans/create-issue-from-file@v4
        with:
          title: Link Checker Report
          content-filepath: ./lychee/out.md
          labels: report, automated issue

I'd like to share my experience with Lychee. I came across it yesterday and integrated it into my project. While it was helpful in identifying some broken links, it also generated some false positives (links that appear broken but function correctly). I'm still exploring the tool's functionality to potentially fine-tune its accuracy.

On a separate note, I encountered a permissions issue when trying to open new issues.

here is an example from my own project:

I hope this helps

Add link to COVID-19 Policy

I'd love for confs.tech to have a link to events' COVID-19 Policies, just like to their Code of Conduct. Ever more events add this info to their event pages.

Add MIT license

The confs.tech site has an MIT license. I'm assuming this should be too?

Status of builds from Travis CI is not reported

Hi,

On Travis CI the builds for PR are shown as passed, but here on GitHub they all are still pending.
Any ideas why it might be happening? I tried looking into it but had no luck finding the clues.

Add momentum 2024

The Momentum Developer Conference is set to take place on October 17, 2024.

Add Call for Tracks, Call for Hosts

Tell me when yall think this is overengineering, but plenty of conferences have a Call for Tracks, and a Call for Hosts too. Can we add that the same way as the CfP works?

Support email as a kind of CFP address

Currently CFP URL field assumes that the value is a web page address. But there are conferences where talk proposals can be sent in a free form by email. For example, community-driven SnowOne conference. In corresponding PR (#1747) its CFP URL is incorrect (irrelevant fields are omitted):

{
  "cfpUrl": "http://[email protected]",
}

Perhaps the field should support URI instead of URL.

Changes in dates and removals are not fully synced

Hi,

I've noticed that some of the events that we've recently removed or updated are still visible on the website (trying in the incognito mode, so it's not browser caches).
Examples:
Spring I/O - see twice on the list in May and in October #2261
IcingaConf and OSCamp on Bareos - were removed, still see on the list #2263

Probably some the same issues with other recently updated events - haven't checked them all.

Identifying conferences

Hi,

we're working on a small tool for our company to (among other things) help people find conferences they might enjoy. Up until very recently we were using dev.events as data source, but it looks like the developer behind it has disappeared and removed all repositories. As a result, we'd love to pivot to using tech-conferences instead.

I've looked through this repository and it appears that the individual entries don't have an ID. Given how the data is updated via PRs, it is understandable why and I don't see an obvious way of adding one.

Do you have any recommendation or suggestion as to how approach this?

Request: empty array file for topic without conferences

Context: on Internal hackaton in FlixMobility I've created a tool that retrieves information about conferences and pushes it to slack. You can find it here: https://github.com/flix-tech/confs.tech.push

Right now I'm making http call to current year's json file for specific token to get list of conferences. Sometimes I get http code 404 in response and it may happen because of:

  1. I made a typo in topic name so I should fix scheduled script.
  2. Repo file structure changed so I should fix the tool.
  3. There's no conferences scheduled (like 2019/scala) and it's ok.

In every case response is same so there's no way to determine whether something's broken or not. This won't be a problem if there's a file with empty array for every year/topic pair.

Also this may possibly fix tech-conferences/confs.tech#429

Please add CFML as a topic

ColdFusion Markup Language, more commonly known as CFML, is a scripting language for web development.
CFML runs on a server-side web application server like Lucee or Adobe ColdFusion.

Similar to what PHP, ASP.NET, Ruby on Rails, and others would do, it allows you to render dynamic web sites with a variety aggregation and helper features to output to a client.

Southern California Linux Expo is blocklisted

SCaLE (the Southern California Linux Expo https://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/20x ) appears to be blocked when I try to add the call for papers link. This is a conference focused on linux and open source software with many technical tracks including developer focused, devops, systems & infrastructure, kernel development and more. I don't see why this wouldn't be considered a relevant event for software development. Can you unblock us?
