What would that do? Throw the parent away? Doesn't seem like that frequent an operation, and can already easily be done with copy/paste.

Not necessarily away but e.g. to separate cell upwards and then if needed the upwards cell can be deleted. The idea is to restructure list in table. Similar feature is e.g. in word processing the title level changing feature. E.g. if I there is a need to restructure the list (it might be a quite frequent task) then how can I do so that change only certain row level , I mean the indentation from left with (or also without) sublist? Possibly you are right - it would too complex and must be solved by copy-paste.

i also had a thought about such feature, but now get used to Ctrl-A|Ctrl-X|Ctrl-V combo.

What would that do?

I think of the feature as promote/demote analogue for traditional mind maps. F9 works as demote. So there is need for reverse action to edit structure freely. That may be have little usage in nested table view, but in the lines view the feature is essential.

I see two different kinds of demotes:

  • Wrap in new parent (F9)
  • Place under preceding sibling (there's plenty of outliners and todo lists that work this way).

Consequently there's 2 promotes:

  • Replace parent (the reverse of F9, loses parent content).
  • Place next to parent (keeps parent, again like some outliners and todo lists).

Personally, when I think of promote/demote, I think of the latter 2. All can be done with cut & paste of course.
