Architecture

Hummm... want to learn more about how all this is structured? A good sketch is better than a long speech, so here is a little schema:

Adobe Open Source schema

The information is pulled directly from the Github API and aggregated by a NodeJS server (its code source is available in this repository). It is available through an simple REST API, thanks to restify.

AngularJS then makes a unique API call to the server and inject the data on your browser, based on the Foundation CSS framework and using dc.js for the graphs. The filtering engine for the repositories was built on top of Angular.

Deploying Locally

Install local web server globally

npm i -g local-web-server

Run ws command in your terminal in the root of this project to lauch a local web server showing the site

Site should be running on http://localhost:8000/

Site not loading due to server issues

Server repo is at https://github.com/adobe/server.adobe.github.com.

List of orgs has changed (some have been deleted). Thus causing issues with the server not sending a response and the site hanging.

We don't have access to the heroku instance that server is running on. So will have to

  • fix the broken code in server.adobe.github.com
  • deploy our own instance
  • update this site to use the new instance

Adobe Logo looks blurred

Hi,
The Adobe Logo on the left-hand side of the website looks blurred in Chrome(Version 54). In Mozilla it looks ok but the text size of "Adobe" is pretty small. The issue is very small. I mentioned it since it is on the home page. The image is from Chrome.

Thank you

Photoshop still not available under Linux

I'm a paying customer for the Adobe CC suite and have been using Adobe products ever since Photoshop 7. All of those things were paid for by me.
For my work environment I am bound to a Linux box. It tempted me to try and see how good WINE and similar tools now work and what do you know? Adobe CS6 works just fine for everyday work with it. CC apparently as well.
Why is Adobe still not pushing a proper cross platform system for it's tools? Linux desktops have grown up so much and thanks to projects like snap and similar now also provide a distribution agnostic app installation base.

inb4 nobody would by Photoshop on Linux

https://adobe.github.com/ is not a GitHub page any more; documentation should in stead mention https://adobe.github.io/

Expected Behaviour

https://adobe.github.com/ to be alive as a GitHub page.

Actual Behaviour

https://adobe.github.com/ is not a GitHub page any more

Reproduce Scenario (including but not limited to)

Browse to https://adobe.github.com/

Steps to Reproduce

None (see archived page below under "logs")

Platform and Version

Latest Chrome x64 on latest Windows 10 x64.

Sample Code that illustrates the problem

None (see archived page below under "logs")

Logs taken while reproducing problem

Cause

https://adobe.github.com/ used to 302-redirect to https://adobe.github.io until 2019 (see https://web.archive.org/web/20190607103804/https://adobe.github.com/)

Proposed change

Change all documentation from pointing to https://adobe.github.com/ or URLs under to the same URL but on the https://adobe.github.io/ subdomain.

At least the toplevel README.md still points to https://adobe.github.com in two places and should be changed. I have not checked other source files.

Rewrite in ColdFusion

This is a little embarrassing for Adobe, but I guess they forgot that they are the proud owners of an awesome and modern JVM scripting language called ColdFusion. Implementing this site in Node must have been an understandable oversight. Please correct it with a healthy dose of Adobe's own products. :)

Please reach out if you need help. There's modern equivalents to all the tools you used for your Node back end. MVC, testing, package management, etc. Just think how much cooler the site will be when it finally says "Powered by Adobe ColdFusion" at the bottom!

[v2] JSON updater

Build the Node server that will update Adobe repos list (in JSON).

  • The JSON is stored in an orphan branch of the repo.
  • Cron task on the Node server using grunt git-deploy to automatically update the JSON on a regular basis

Cordova needs help

Apache Cordova is the electron of mobile.
It is a foundational technology that allows developers to write hybrid web apps and to share most of the code with electron and the web, thus having critically high public utility.

Cordova has currently zero paid developper and a lack of maintenance.
Cordova needs contributions to get android 10 support.

I believe Cordova and Electron projects share a common goal of pushing the open web forward.

Electron has quickly got a huge success on the desktop and I expect it's only a matter of a few years until cordova get really popular.

Before Cordova became an Apache project, it was owned by Adobe.

I'm asking if Adobe Inc would be interested to give help and funding to this foundational technology that emerged in an Adobe acquisition.

Linking the GITHUB logo to the repository

Description

While studying the existing PRs, I came to know that the GitHub logo in the footer section is a design choice.
I suggest to link this logo to the GitHub repository such that the repository gets opened in a new tab on clicking it.
