projects-using-aisstream.io's Introduction

Welcome to the official Github account of aisstream.io 🚒

Hello! aisstream.io is a free api to stream global AIS data via websockets. With our AIS data stream you are able to track vessel position, identity, port calls and much more.

If you decide to use aisstream in a project, app, or company please open a issue here. We would love to hear what aisstream.io is currently being used for!

Whats New!

  1. Subscription MMSI filters. Users can now only recieve messages from the vessels they choose by specifying a list of MMSIs in the FiltersShipMMSI subscription property when setting their subscription.

  2. Subscription message type filters. Users can now only recieve messages of the types they choose by specifying a list of aisstream.io message types in the FilterMessageTypes subscription property when setting their subscription.

OpenAIS: Lowering the bar for researchers to access AIS data products

Thanks for the project! I've been using AIS data to develop open-data products. One such product is a heatmap of vessel traffic for the north sea. This is more than just a count of AIS messages per cell (since that is biased to areas with good reception) but instead measures hours spent in a grid cell for vessel types.

I started refactoring lots of the code I've been using to develop this and stumbled onto this project. I've been using it now for dev work on a Kafka streaming data processing tool and results are looking good! Still figuring kafka out and the KSQL streaming tools still feel a little basic but it's way better than the pipelines I was building in python.
