wordclock-neomatrix8x8's Issues

Random LEDS lit

I've setup the project as designed, but when I upload the code, it's not displaying the time as expected. The project description says that the Trinket lights each word at startup, but what I seem to be getting is random light patterns. It finishes startup then tries to display the time, but it's not lighting up the words as expected. I even rotated the cover all 4 ways just to see if I'm seeing any words lit and nothing.

I can't figure out what's happening, I've got all the connections right (there's not much to it) as far as I can tell.

I just enabled color wipe (rainbowCycle) and the bottom two rows of the display are off. Do I have a bad NeoPixel array?

Invalid SVG file?

Hi. I send the svg file to ponoko.com for their laser cutting service but the file turn out invalid. It is my first time trying out laser cutting may i know what could be the issue?

This is the reply from their website:

Your SVG's are coming up as 'invalid' and can not be opened. Which hints at an issue with saving/exporting settings.

What software are you using to create these SVG's? Remember when laser cutting, we can only accept correctly formatted SVG, EPS and DXF files.

Initial time of clock hard-coded when uploading?

Thanks for this great project and the write-up in Make magazine. My son & I decided it would make a great first Arduino project and are now up and running with very few hitches. Online tutorial on adafuit is good.

One thing did surprise me that I want to confirm and document here (or else let you correct my understanding). We've noticed that the clock has the correct time when we upload the software (via Arduino IDE v1.8.13), but that if we then unplug the clock and let it sit off-power for a bit, then plug it in again -- it thinks the time of day is the same as when we uploaded the software. This leads me to believe that the initial time of day is being hardcoded at the time of upload. And that this setup() call below is pulling that hardcoded time as it starts watching increments from the RTC. Am I getting this correct? Or is this behavior unexpected from your perspective?

Running the recommended hardware and:
RTClib v_latest
DST_RTC v1.0.0 (not v1.1.1 due to bug I reported)
Adafruit_GFX v_latest
Adafruit_BusIO v_latest
Adafruit_NeoPixel v_latest
Adafruit_NeoMatrix v_latest

Unsure of correct dimensions for cutting

Hi,
I'm new to laser cutting, trying to use the files you provided.
When I upload them to Ponoko, only the dimensions on the clear part of the enclosure passes the laugh test. The files for the letters and the pixel guard open as 1.2mm or 296.3mm square, which must be incorrect given the size of the neopixel matrix.
Is there something I have done wrong to corrupt this measurement? I am not familiar with .svg or .dxf files.
Thanks for the help, I've already got the electronics wired and working, just need this case to put them in!

License?

Andy, can you please add a license (file) to the project? Right now it's unclear what I can do with your code.
