boat's Issues

Bolt on chimney hat

We’ve got a lovely new chimney, but the hat is at risk of blowing away. It needs bolting in place 🔩

Battery monitor

We really need an ammeter reading while the engine is running, to check the alternator is working correctly.

This will hopefully be fixed on 15/12/2015!

Diesel leak

Fuel pipe needs changing to rectify diesel leak. Hopefully this will be fixed on 15/12/2015!

Fix the leaks :(

It’s currently raining, and there are drips coming in from various places:

  • Pigeon box, near the sofa
  • Rear left window (above the sofa)
  • Coal locker

Get puppy

This is just an excuse to post a photo of our new puppy.

Rename boat

This is dependent on #5.

  • apparently we should take her out of the water to rename her
  • Frank says we need a priest
  • London boaters facebook group says we need: “the full complement of virgins dancing in the full moon”
  • need to register the new name with CRT (presumably there’s an admin fee?)

Finish the bathroom sink

  • Fix the leak!
  • Route the hot water to the hot tap
  • Attach the cold water pipe (pipe and attachment ordered)
  • Cut the trap mechanism shorter
  • Make the waste sit further down somehow to fix puddle (e.g. replace rubber washer with sealant)
  • Seal the sink

Scrap old batteries

We’ve inherited a big box of leaky batteries that need to make their way to the scrapyard.

Buy a generator

We quite badly need a generator, but need to spec it out a bit.

Key considerations

  • Diesel vs petrol. @Madsybaby is keen on diesel to minimise the risk of putting the wrong fuel in
  • Noise. It would be great to get something fairly quiet, since we’ll probably use it a lot.
  • Size / weight. It would be great to get something we can store inside (for security)
  • 12V output – so we can directly charge the leisure batteries

NB “Medusa T1000” is a brilliant name for anything, and I really want to buy it for that reason alone.

Paint chimney flue

The new chimney flue has had one coat of paint, but needs one more 🎨

Scrap old batteries

We have a load of old batteries in the living room. Need to take them to the scrapyard.

Clean up & paint gas locker

This is really dependent on #12, since there’s not a lot of point cleaning up the gas locker while rain water is still leaking in there.

This was a recommendation of the recent survey (#8).

Replace all buffalo boards

The wooden lid for the gas locker is cracked, so lets water in when it rains. We need to chop up some marine ply and make a new one!

Replace oven

The oven is, like, the first ever oven on a boat (or something). It doesn’t really work, and badly needs to be replaced.

Buy new (rope?) fenders

We’ve taken all the tyre fenders off (so no nesting birds this summer!)

We could put them back on after painting… but it might be nicer to get some lovely rope ones like the beautiful one @davewhiteland made!

MAKE CURTAINS! (to replace the blinds)

The current blinds are naff and I keep breaking them (plus they’re not at all insulating!) Some sort of curtain solution would be much better.

TODO:

  • Bedroom curtain 1
  • Bedroom curtain 2
  • Front door (roman blind)
  • Living room curtain 1
  • Living room curtain 2
  • Living room curtain 3
  • Living room curtain 4
  • Living room curtain 5
  • Living room curtain 6
  • Dining room curtain 1
  • Dining room curtain 2

Choose a name

We’re not ever so keen on boaty’s name so we just call her boaty. We should come up with something better. Suggestions welcome!

New water pump

The water pump is on its way out.

Dusty photo, for reference:

Increase gas locker capacity

Currently we can fit a max of 2*3.9kg 4*3.9kg propane cylinders in our gas locker. That’s okay… But if we were to start using the gas central heating, we’d run out of gas really fast.

It would be cool (if possible) to expand the gas locker down into the engine bay, so we could put bigger propane cylinders in.

Service stove

  • Stove glass is wobbly due to rounded off screws securing it in place
  • There’s a big hole in the baffleplate (?!)

Replace outdoor fridge

Our outdoor fridge (aka plastic box) is very broken and leaky! It is really quite gross. We need a more solid coolbox that can live outdoors under the gunwales.

Refurbish water tank

You’re supposed to do this every couple of years… And we’ve never done it :\

But LSC are doing it now!
