Chat Application

Summary:
This app allows the user to register and sign in to a chat interface where they can view and exchange messages with other users. It was written in HTML, CSS, Javascript and Python. It uses React, Bootstrap, Flask as an internal API and PostgreSQL for database management.

What I learned:
This project allowed me to build on my understanding of full stack development and improve on the separation of concerns. I learned about Python blueprints and their usefulness when creating connections between a database and API endpoints. I was also able to familiarize myself with PostgreSQL, PGAdmin to execute queries for data retrieval and database management. In addition to this, I challenged myself to add some security when storing user passwords which led me to research and implement a hashing method to encrypt each user password in the database. Overall, I ran into a bunch of bugs, especially during deployment, that forced me to find different approaches to previous solutions in order to fix UI and performance issues. I learned a ton while working through each problem and finding new solutions.
