functions to selectively clear the cache

Can be useful for certain publish commands that should still be fast (i.e. cached resources), but after all is done, one might want to do a full clean build, but without flushing the whole cache (e.g. remotely downloaded static files).

add verbose logging

allow source to return an error

Instead of returning null or simply crashing, we could return errors. Either for recovery attempts or e.g. showing error html result instead of crashing the server when trying to serve failed built attempt.
