packedjson's Introduction

packedjson

packedjson is an alternative Nim implementation for JSON. The JSON is essentially kept as a single string in order to save memory over a more traditional tree representation.

The API is mostly compatible with the stdlib's json.nim module, some features have been cut though.

To compile the benchmark, run these commands:

nim c -r bench\generator

nim c -r -d:release bench\benchmark.nim
nim c -r -d:release -d:useStdlib benchmark.nim

On my machine, I got these results:

packed json: used Mem: 94.06MiB time: 2.622s
stdlib json: used Mem: 1.277GiB time: 3.759s

packedjson is now being used in production and seems to be reasonably stable.

packedjson's Issues

`{}=` proc result is inconsistent with stdlib.json

import packedjson
var cost = newJObject()
var rows = [["AWS","compute"],["AWS","network"],["Alibaba","compute"],["Alibaba","network"]]

for row in rows:
    cost{row[0],row[1]} = %(cost{row[0],row[1]}.getFloat + 1.0)
echo cost

change packedjson to json to see the expected result.

Cannot import packedjson

Hi, I am newbie want to use packedjson from the nimble directory.

Downloading https://github.com/Araq/packedjson using git

Prompt: [email protected] already exists. Overwrite? [y/N]
Answer: Success: packedjson installed successfully.

but when I import on the .nim file, there is error said that cannot open packedjson
import packedjson <- error cannot open file packedjson

what I am missing to use and make packed json work?

Thanks,

Error building a new JObject

Im trying to use swap json out with packedJson but am stuck with an error that makes no sense to me.

This is my function

func `%`*(t : StringTableRef): JsonNode =
  let o = newJObject()
  if t == nil: return
  for i,v in t: o[i] = newJString(v)

which compiles fine under stdlib but with packedJson I get the following..

whip.nim(24, 18) Error: type mismatch: got <JsonTree, string, JsonNode>
but expected one of:
proc `[]=`(obj: var JsonTree; key: string; val: JsonNode)
...
