Sanity check surface fields

The surface fields for the atmosphere, land, and ocean should be sanity checked both near the start of the run and at the end of a long integration
Atmosphere

• u-velocity
• v-velocity
• pressure
• precip - evap

Ocean

• u-velocity
• v-velocity
• Temperature
• Salinity
• SSH

Land

• Temperature

Port Coupled Aquaplanet to other machines

The model should be able to be run on other machines so that others can use it as a tool for their own research and to take advantage of other HPC resources as they become available.

At the very least this could be tested on

• Cheyenne (NCAR)
• Gaea (GFDL)

Other potential platforms:

• Parker's machine
• mox/hyak

Change processor count and layout

We've encountered problems with running AM2 on anything other than N x 1 tiles. This will prevent the coupled model from scaling. This should be verified when compiling with the following combinations

• ifort with Intel-MPI
• ifort with OpenMPI
• gfortran with OpenMPI
• gfortran with MPICH2

Test restart capabilities

The model should be checked to see if the model can restart and also reproduces across restarts:
The following test should test both of these at the same time

1. Run 1: Integrate the coupled model for 2 days
2. Run 2: Integrate the coulped model for 1 day, restart and integrate for another day
3. Compare the restarts at the end of 2 day integration

Test combinations:

• gfortran with OpenMPI
• intel with Intel-MPI
