Minimize

Hello,

How i can setting the OpenNetMeter when start it with Windows 10, start minimized.
So it is already in the background with the Windows start.

Greetings..

Merlin

Please add languages

Can you add languages, please?

I tried to add with ResX Manager, but I get errors only and I'm a beginner.

XDG0008 Resources is not supported in a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) project

In my own WPF project there's working with languages...

Example
MainWindow.xaml: {x:Static properties:Resources.MyText}
Resource files: Resources.de-DE.resx

Thank you.

Version 0.11.1 freezes after 10-15 minutes

Hi,

an hour ago, or so, I updated to 0.11.1 and since then the tool already 2-3 times freezed and I had to restart it.
The widget and the tool itself freezed, (summary tab, etc.) not just one.
I now jumped back tp 0.11.0.
I use Win10.

Kind regards
Dirk

Change taskbar network speed meter implementation to support windows 10 & 11.

Microsoft stopped officially supporting the deskband feature as of windows 7. The feature was still included in the following operating system releases up until windows 10 and finally removed in windows 11.
Due to this, the network speed meter will not officially work on windows 11.

Describe the solution you'd like
Instead of installing the speed meter to the taskbar as a deskband (the current implementation), implement the meter as a mini window which will always stay on top. the user can move this mini window to any position in the desktop, especially over the taskbar.

Implement Network Usage Statistics by Day

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Hello, this software is the very tool I am looking for, could you please add a tab that can show data usage in the past several days, so that I can know the usage information of every program in the past days.

Describe the solution you'd like
Add a tab that can show data usage history of every program, statistics by day, or maybe set a button that could select the statistical period, such as yesterday, last 3 days, last week, and last 30 days.

I'm not sure if it's clearly stated, sorry about my bad English.

Application does not update records accurately when the day changes.

Describe the bug
The "History" tab records does not update accurately when the day changes for example from the 21st to 22nd.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Run the application
  2. make sure your system time is 11:59pm on lets say the 21st
  3. wait until it hits 12:00am on the 22nd
  4. the "summary" tab resets. It does not update under the new date (22nd) in the "History" tab.

Expected behavior
Update accurately

App and Windows Version (please complete the following information):

  • Windows Specs:
    Edition Windows 11 Pro
    Version 21H2
    Installed on ‎29-‎Dec-‎21
    OS build 22000.778
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.778.0

How to update and keep history and settings?

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

There is no description how to update and keep settings and history.
If I just download a new version and execute it, then all the history is lost, also settings are lost.
I would like to keep settings and history.

There is a related issue #61
but if I copy user.config then I get only settings.
I have no idea where the history is stored and how to transfer it into the new version.

Describe the solution you'd like

  • Please integrate the update check for new versions into the app
  • Please ensure that settings and history are transfered into a new version
  • document, how to install a new version in a way which keeps settings and history, if it is not intuitive
  • document, where settings and history are stored

Describe alternatives you've considered
I did not find a way to get the history into the new version

Feature Request - Download Results Into File

This is a great program. One suggestion I have, would be to be able to possibly download results in a individual file, like a table. For example, I want to be able to click a "start recording" button of the sorts, monitor my traffic, and then "stop recording" and be able to have that result shown. I'll admit, I don't have a solid idea for how to display the results, but one possibility is to simply create a file, that shows the table results, that you can see in the detailed view tab.

I really like the reset button, to reset the active data, simply being able to download a results file would be awesome.

If I could essentially have a file that is the detailed view table, in a file, that would be perfect.

I understand if this might not be possible, just something I think could be useful.

Great application! Love everything else about it!

Current and Total

Version 0.10 has : Current Data and Total Data . They both seem to show cumulative.
Version 0.11 has : Current Data . This seems to be a cumulative rather than current. The number keeps rising.

It is possible to have an Actual Current Data and Total Data like the display of version 0.10

By "Current Data Received" : I would like to see the Actual Data received since last refresh. If an application (example chrome) is receiving 10 KB (since last "refresh") than it should show 10KB rather than ( total of all KB received since OpenNetMeter the is started )
By "Total Data Received" : is the total data received since the OpenNetMeter started ( this is what is shown as Current Data Received for both version 0.10 and 0.11

I mentioned only "Data Received" as an example both it should be both applied to Received and Sent

Example

Name Current Data Received Total Data Received ( 04-Jul-2022 10:47:01 )
Brave 10KB 10KB

Name Current Data Received Total Data Received ( 04-Jul-2022 10:47:02 )
Brave 10KB 20KB

Name Current Data Received Total Data Received (04-Jul-2022 10:47:03 )
Brave 9KB 29KB

Name Current Data Received Total Data Received (04-Jul-2022 10:47:04 )
Brave 11KB 40KB

Thanks

Option to select network interface

Just installed the app, it works great!
I would like to suggest an option in the settings to be able to set the network interface manually. I'm using VPN so there are two active network connections.

Settings get lost when updating to new version

Describe the bug
When updating OpenNetMeter all settings from previous usage are gone.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Download new version from github and extract content to some directory
  2. close running OpenNetMeter, copy extracted content to program dir and overwrite existing files
  3. start OpenNetMeter

Expected behavior

App and Windows Version (please complete the following information):

  • Windows Specs: Windows 10 Pro x64 (21H2)
  • OpenNetMeter Version: any in the past (last time when updating from 0.12.0 to 01.12.1)

  • Start program on windows startup not active (was active)
  • Dark mode gets lost
  • Network to monitor gets set back to Both (was on public)
  • and so on

Workaround
Get to c:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\OpenNetMeter\OpenNetMeter_Url* and copy user.config from the folder of the previous version to the folder of the new version

scaling for higher network speed

the tool is great and i like it, but i use at home 10Gbit-Adapters and transfer rates graphes are totally outside the borders of the diagram :-(

a kind of autoscaling or an option tho choose the max network speed would be good

thank you for your work already done

Taskbar goes awry, Explorer.exe needs random restart on Win10

Installed Open Net Meter recently on 2 laptops.
Randomly, it happens that:

  • The taskbar loses some graphical details (eg. The clear line below the open windows)
  • The Open Net Meter speed toolbar gets "crunched" to the side
  • Most of the tray icons disappear (their functionality seems to remain, and they take up space. It's just an invisible icon)
I can still swap windows by clicking (so, it's not a total explorer.exe freeze), and I can recover all functionality by accessing Task Manager and clicking RMB+Restart on Explorer.exe's process: User Interface refreshes, all icons and details reappear, toolbar is again correctly shown.

I haven't yet found how to replicate it consistently, as it has mostly happened while pc was idling, about 4-5 times in the last couple days. If I manage to, I'll update here.

This has happened on two devices, both running Windows 10:

  • One personal laptop, also Windows 10 (IIRC with update 20H2 but I will have to check again once I'm able to). This was the first device that showed the issue but I assumed it could be caused by system instability caused from my tinkering with it.
  • One work laptop, IT-managed to run Win10 Pro v1809, build 17763.1577. I realized the phenomenon could be caused by OpenNetMeter when I had the same issue on this unit, some 30 minutes after the installation.

If there's any testing I can run just let me know. Thank you in advance for your help!

Application opens multiple instances when opening it more than once

Describe the bug
If you open the application more than once, there will be exactly the same amount of separate open instances of the application.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Right click, open the application as an admin
  2. Repeat step 1 as many times as you want
  3. Watch the accumulation of windows.

Expected behavior
Have only one instance of the application open. When trying to open more than one instance. Bring the open window to focus.

Mini Widget properly integrated into windows 10 taskbar

Hi,

I wanted to change from NetSpeedmonitor, that hasn't been updated since 2010 to OpenNetMeter. Unfortunately ONM doesn't have such a well integrated mini widget like NetSpeedmonitor does, which is a TaskBar function.

I would love to see an update there, for me to change. Do you think you could do this?

netspeedmon

Implement minimize to tray.

Once implemented, hovering over the icon should show,

  • a summary of the data usage.
  • network speed.

Right clicking the icon should show,

  • option to exit.
  • any important setting if available in the future.

Network usage wrong values on my windows 11 system

Describe the bug
When watching a YouTube video through Firefox in my windows 11 system, the program was not tracking the data usage accurately compared to the stats shown in the resource monitor.
This bug weirdly only appears on one of the WiFi connection profile. When switching to another profile it goes away.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Launch OpenNetMeter.
  2. Open an instance of Firefox and play a YouTube video.
  3. Check if data usage is being measured accurately.

Expected behavior
Measure data usage accurately

Pull the window larger with the mouse

**Is your feature request related to a problem?
I love to see all programms that use nettraffic at once. The Window to see the traffic is to smal for that.

Describe the solution you'd like
It would be wonderfull, if you could build in the functionality to pull the windows larger with the mouse.

Could be, that you have that allready in mind. It's only a thing that I noticed very fast.

Thank you for your work! I have been looking for something like this for some time.

Add option to seperate network traffic.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently the program detects all network traffic apart from loop-backs.

Describe the solution you'd like
Add option to detect,

  1. Internet traffic only
  2. Local network traffic only
  3. Internet+local network traffic (currently what the program works with)

Application freezes when disconnecting and reconnecting the network adapter.

Describe the bug
The application freezes when the network adapter is disconnected and reconnected to a connection. This freeze happens exactly when the speed graph hits the 60th second in the graph.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open application (version 0.11.0, 0.11.1 or 0.11.2)
  2. connect to the internet (toggle WiFi to ON state), wait for app to detect
  3. disconnect from the internet (toggle WiFi to OFF state), wait for app to detect
  4. connect to the internet (toggle WiFi to ON state), wait for app to detect
  5. wait for the graph in the summary tab to hit the 60th second, the edge of the graph
  6. the program will remain frozen in this state.

Expected behavior
Update application with the current data transfer progress

OpenNetMeter Release 0.11.0 - Wont Run - unhandled exception - Expected Folder that Doesn't Exist

OpenNetMeter Release 0.11.0 - Wont Run - unhandled exception on running.

Looks like it assumes a folder exists and crashes when it does not.

So don't crash, create the folder if really needed. Hope not, would be best to remain portable and use the current folder instead.

That is create and save user.config in the folder app is ran from instead of %LocalAppData%.

adding an installer for easier updates

If I see, that there is an Update, im always I bit lazy to do it, because I have to extract the zip and put it in the right folder.

Adding an installer would be woderful. Also than you could add it to package manager projects for even easier installation.

Speed mouseover display, if taskbar is at the top

I use Windows 10 and I have my taskbar at the top of the screen.
If I want to see the mouseover display, it opens, but it is out of the screen, because it pops out over the mouse, not under it.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Put you taskbar to the top of the screen
  2. Hover over the trayicon

Expected behavior
Show the display under the mouse, if the taskbar is at the top of the screen. Same thing, if you use the taskbar on the left side, it should show the display on the right of the mouse.

Speed Display is too small

Hi Ashfaaq18,

The font size of the speed indicator is too small for me.
Font color is perfect.

I would add a function when the speed display is activated,
you can hide the globe and then at the speed display,
open the OpenNetMeter program with the left mouse button.
Else are two icons in the right taskbar.
Then one too many for me.

Simply brilliant tool.
Keep going.

Application fast closes when network connection change.

Hi,

the application fast closes/crashes when the network connection change.
I already had the impression since an earlier version, but I thought it is due to my last bug report with the freezing display, so I didn't mention it in my last report to not mix up issues. But it stays to be the same even in version 12.
I notice this behavior when I enter/exit my vpn connection (need to use vpn often).

Kind regards

Taskbar speed visual

Instead of mouseover to see the network speed, show the speed direct in the taskbar so it can be viewed instantly without having to mouseover

Feature Request: Option to set fixed unit for network speed

Since #52 it is possible to switch between bits/second and bytes/second, which is a great improvement. But the displayed units will still change in their magnitude, e.g. between Kbps, Mbps etc, depending on current traffic throughput.

Please add an option to set the unit to a fixed value. For example, I would like to set it to always display Mbps but never Kbps, Gbps and so on.

OpenNetMeter - open via speed display

Hi Ashfaaq18,

Can you please fix that if you have "only" the speed in the bar,
that you can double-click with the left mouse button so that your program opens.
So far, this is just about the globe symbol.

Thank you.

Greetings..

Merlin
