1. in Safari, go to http://idisk.mac.com/username (enter pwd if necessary)
-> site is shown
2. reload current page -> pwd dialog will appear. no pwd will then be accepted
3. There is a problem in the .mac prefpane which I believe is similar->pwd

Also: when loading safari the first time and navigating to website, it
always works. Closing tab sheet, reloading in a new tabsheet will also
work. However, leaving tabsheet open and hitting reload will yield the problem.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set everything up like explained in your article
2. Ping lcs.mac.com to be sure it points to your OWN server (/etc/hosts enty)
3. Open the prefpane and try to login. As soon as you pres "Sign In", the
IP ist changed again to one from Apple!!
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The login process must use my own server address for lcs.mac.com, declare
in /etc/hosts.

This is really bad! ;-) How is prefpane getting the real IP from apple?
Reverse DNS or hard coded into the app? Remember: all other hosts in
/etc/host point to the correct server (mine).

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Installed and configured dotMac according to the wiki starting from the
stock Apache 2 install
in Mac OS X 10.5.2.
2. Compiled and added patched versions mod_dav.so and mod_dav.fs.so
3. Modified client's hosts file.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected access to iDiskAdmin, but got Forbidden error.
iDiskErrorLog shows: ...client denied by server configuration:
/var/www/dotmac/configuration/idiskAdmin
When starting Apache, the following warnings are logged:
Unknown key: SHAuthorizationRight
httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name,
using lithium.local
for ServerName
What version of dotmac are you using ?
v199 (after having same issue with 0.5)
What operating system are you running dotmac on ?
Mac OS X 10.5.2 (I know it's not a supported server yet, but it's what I have
to work with.)
What version of OSX are your clients ?
Mac OS X 10.5.2
Please provide any additional information below.
I'm new to Apache, so I hope this isn't a very silly problem.
I also get a Forbidden error when accessing http://idisk.mac.com/testuser and
https://idisk.mac.com/testuser in both Finder and Safari. However, I can access
http://idisk.mac.com/testuser/Public/ correctly in both Finder and Safari (I
get the expected
user/password prompt and the directory is displayed). In both cases, the
apache2 access_log and
error_log show no new entries
I have attached my httpd.conf and dotmac.conf files. The httpd.conf is
unmodified from the
Apple default except for the addition of the SSLSessionCache and
SSLSessionCacheTimeout
directives which I added to get rid of an error when writing to user.dat. The
dotmac.conf is
unmodified except for the LoadModule perl_module and DavLockDB directives and
the server IP.

First: THANKS for this NICE app! Great work.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Not easy to say. Only on one of my Macs it happens all the time. Don't
know why. Don't know, how to reproduce.
2. Everytime I sign in or out of dotmac, my Mac asks for permission (and my
password): "System prefereces requires that you type your password". See
Attachment.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect not to type my password everytime I login (and out!).
What version of dotmac are you using ?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Open iDiskAdmin web admin tool
2. Add new user or change exist user storage size
3. There is only a few size options.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would like to use a normal input field, not a select list. The
administration will be flexibile if i can add a specify value. Now i hacked
the iDiskUserAdmin.pm file with this code:
table({border=>1},
TR (
th({valign=>'TOP',align=>'RIGHT'}, 'quota'),
td (popup_menu(-name=>'quota',
-values=>[qw/0

)
),
TR
But this is only a temporaly solution. Could you release a flexibile

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. multiple (i)syncs with 10.4 clients
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Basically the locktoken.dat database in /var/www/dotmac/userxml/ should not
contain 'old'
locktokens. Currently the perl module (ServiceRequest.pm) doesn't check (and
delete) old
locktokens.
Temporary solution:
The LocktokenDB is non-critical. When it grows large it can be deleted by hand.
It will be
automatically created upon a new sync request. Worst case: a client reports an
unsuccessful
sync, when the db is deleted while syncing.
Technical hint:
If/when someone is willing to dive into this;
sub addLocktoken (in ServiceRequest.pm) already has some code commented out

If you check in new code, please check if dependencies changed!
Code won't run unless you do a additional
perl -MCPAN -e 'install XML::LibXML'
and install all depended modules ... and don't forget to do a "apt-get
install libxml2-dev" before ....
Could someone please update the guide in the wiki?

I'm not sure if this is due to the errors I am seeing being reported on my
machine (See my other
post under "issues"), but in working to determine the cause of my issues, I
noticed that the
passwords for my users are being stored in plain text in the apache error.log
(/var/log/apache2/error.log on my system). Below is a partial log dump - I
replaced the actual
password with the "xxxxxxxx".
Just thought I would make it known.

Hi,
This thing looked like fun, so I tried installing it on a Scientific Linux
4.4 box.
I'm no expert on the configuration, but after installing the dotmac.conf
file, restarting apache gives:
Can't locate Apache2/RequestRec.pm in @INC (@INC contains: <omit>)
I symlinked /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/Apache
so that it was in the path. This threw various errors with 'use strict' in
the dotmac packages, so I stripped out those lines.
Now it fails later on:
Starting httpd: [Tue Jan 22 19:16:22 2008] [warn] module perl_module is
already loaded, skipping
[Tue Jan 22 19:16:23 2008] UserAdmin.pm: Can't initialize database:

[Tue Jan 22 19:16:23 2008] UserAdmin.pm: Can't initialize database:
/var/www/dotmac/userxml/tagg/user.dat; No such file or directory
Syntax error on line 23 of /etc/httpd/conf.d/dotmac.conf:

at
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/Apache/PerlSections.pm

However, I fully admit I may have installed something badly; I'm quite
mystified by the interconnections of the PERL module installations, yum,
RPM, etc, etc.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Preconditions:
* one "dotmac" Account
* two clients computer_A and computer_B
Computer_A has the iDisk in "Synchronization-Mode" (manual Sync)
Computer_B has the iDisk without "Synchronization-Mode" (so plain webdav)
1. create or rename a Folder or transfer some files (lets call it
filemodifications) on Computer_B (I checked it via ssh if the
filesystemmodifications happend on the idisk folder
/var/www/dotmac/idisk/...)
2. Click the Sync Button on Computer_A
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected to get the filesystemmodifications on my Computer_A, but instead it
reportet me:
* checking objects
* sync successful with "date"
And the new filemodifications are not synced to my Computer_A.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
For dotmac I use a XEN Debian System according to the guide from barchard.net.
The dotmac version is svn-141 and I recompiled my Apache with the "&" webdav
patch.
Kind regards
fheese

Please provide any additional information below.
I'm able to get the admin interface working and create new users. When I
connect to the iDisk
via Safari I get the folders from the skeleton listed, but when I connect using
Finder to iDisk
nothing ever happens and iDisk never syncs. When I try to cancel the sync the
Finder says
'Stopping Sync' at the bottom but this never completes. In the .Mac panel,
although it allows me
to login does not allow me to check the 'sync with this mac' box. I attempted
to get things
cleared by restarting apache and this seemed to make things worse as the
Preference Panel stops
responding.
I have to reboot to get Finder to stop attempting to stop syncing with iDisk.
Force-Quit of System
Preferences and then signing out of .Mac has no effect on the Finder.

Attachments:
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. htdigest htdigest /var/www/dotmac/private/iDiskUsers idisk.mac.com username
Changing password for user wwebers in realm idisk.mac.com
2. New password: b5-_66dj
3. Re-type new password: b5-_66dj
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The password is accepted by htdigest and I can attach the iDisk. But the
password is not
accepted by the .Mac-Preferences-Pane and thus, not by Backup.
What version of dotmac are you using ?
latest svn-checkout
What operating system are you running dotmac on ?
10.5.1
What version of OSX are your clients ?
10.5.1
Please provide any additional information below.
Changing the password to one having only characters and numbers solved the
problem. But still,
such passwords are weak.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. publish ical calender
2. when trying to subscribe from other computer you get the message:
calendar data is invalid
What version of dotmac are you using ?
0.5
when you publish a calendar (my calendar is called Privat), the data will
be written to
/var/www/dotmac/idisk/username/Sites/.calendars/Privat.ics
ical says, you can download the calendar via
http://idisk.mac.com/username/Public/Privat.ics
this doesn't work. you have to use symlink from Sites to Public
when trying to subscribe via webcal://ical.mac.com/username/Privat.ics it
will not work. ical.mac.com is not in the hosts list you provide. ok,
webcal protokoll maybe will not be understood by apache. so no chance to
use the webcal protokoll, but it should be possible to use the http-link.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add "Adium svn sources" to your idisk
2. idisk sync (iDisk in "Synchronization-Mode" (manual Sync))
What version of dotmac are you using ?
latest trunk 157
What operating system are you running dotmac on ?
For dotmac I use a XEN Debian System according to the guide from barchard.net.
The dotmac version is svn-141 and I recompiled my Apache with the "&" webdav
patch.

On the OS-X side the behavior is as expeted. The FileSyncAgent.log reports
nothing.
My idea is that maybe it is a problem to LOCK .files....
On the dotmac server my logs grow up:

I have installed dotmac on leopard 10.5.2, compiled apache2 from macports
(applied the fix for
mod_ssl). Dotmac is working, I can acces the idisk from
http://idisk.mac.com/username, etc...
The problem I am experiencing is that I cannot get the https running and I am
not able to log in to
dotmac from the preferences panel.
Do I have to enable http-ssl.conf in the httpd.conf file to enable ssl, or is
it automatically enabled
by dotmac.conf? Can somebody please send me their httpd.conf/http-ssl.conf?
tnx

I have a fix for this problem and couldn't find it anywhere else, so I
thought I'd post it here.
Since upgrading to 10.5.2 syncing had died (the bookmarks, contacts, etc.
one) and I discovered today why that was. There was no syncprofile for
10.5.2. To resolve this you simply have to do this:
$dotmac = your dotmac folder, in my case /www/dotmac
Step 1:
cd $dotmac/configuration/configurations/internetservices/syncservices/
Step 2:
cp clientConfiguration-10.5.1 clientConfiguration-10.5.2
Done.
I hope this will be useful to someone.
With kind regards,
Sebastiaan.
